Compression Packing With A Difference

New England Braiding Co., Inc. (NEBCO™) was founded in 1979 by George Champlin and then partner Charlie Swan, with a focus on producing quality mechanical compression packing for the Pulp and Paper Industry.

When NEBCO™ was first incorporated we manufactured conventional square-shaped compression packings. In pursuit of a product with superior performance, George developed the ANTI-KEYSTONE® Packing Technology in 1985, receiving several US and worldwide patents over the next 15 years. This trapezoid shaped design for compression packing solved some of the inherent problems faced when using standard square shaped packing.

We were originally located in a 3,000 square foot commercial space in the basement of a historic mill building along the Merrimack river in Manchester, NH. As NEBCO™ became more established within the fluid sealing industry, we created a North American distributor network and had expanded internationally by 1990.

During this time NEBCO™ grew steadily, increasing the industries we served and the size of its operations. By 1994 we had outgrown the capacity of the 12,000 square feet of space we eventually occupied in the mill building and a search began to relocate nearby within the Manchester, NH area.

In 1995 George improved his original design to include even more features and benefits than the original trapezoidal packing design, developing the ANTI-KEYSTONE® AKⅡ packing technology which received several more US and worldwide patents.

In September 1996, a modern building which fulfilled our every requirement was located and in May 1997, we moved into the new state of the art manufacturing plant. This free-standing facility provided 30% more space and was ideally suited for NEBCO’s growing operations.

In 1999 George unfortunately passed away after a short illness. Sally Champlin, who was deeply involved in every aspect of the business since the beginning, assumed leadership of the company. Under her guidance the business continued to grow, expanding both its domestic and international distribution channels.

In 2003 George & Sally’s youngest son William (Bill) Champlin, joined the business making NEBCO™ a multi-generational business. Wanting to fully understand the business, he started out on the shop floor learning the skills involved in each step of the manufacturing process.

In 2005, New England Braiding Co., Inc. purchased the remaining shares of the company from our partner and became a wholly family owned and operated business. It was at this time that Bill started training in the office, further expanding his knowledge of the company and the industries we serve.

In 2012 NEBCO™ proudly became a member of the Fluid Sealing Association®, an international trade association founded in 1933 whose members produce a wide variety of fluid sealing devices accounting for the majority of the manufacturing capacity in the Americas market.

In December 2019 Sally partially retired while retaining an active role in assisting to shape the future of the company. Bill now directs the day to day operations with the support and assistance of the entire New England Braiding Company team.

Though originally founded to service the pulp & paper industry, we also serve chemical, hydroelectric, industrial, marine, mining, municipal, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, power generation, military and many other industries and operations throughout the world.
